Designed a Linux multimedia architecture for the SH-Mobile processor series. This involved specifying userspace device driver interfaces and developing support infrastructure to use multimedia-related hardware blocks, and co-ordinating open source development with partners and contractors. The interfaces allow customers to use hardware codecs (encoding and decoding of MPEG-4, H.264 etc.) and video processing blocks. The software stack includes OpenMAX IL components, GStreamer plugins, and custom streaming servers.
Implemented improvements in HTTP transport and seeking of Ogg media in Mozilla Firefox, and integration with the oggz-chop server. This also builds on earlier work from the Annodex project, where we specified an optimized byte-range redirection protocol for accessing temporal segments of video.
Co-invented Annodex networked media system. Active involvement in IETF standardisation, lead developer of associated Open Source reference implementation. Published papers in international journals and scientific conferences. Involved with Open Source projects Xiph.Org (Ogg Vorbis, Speex, Theora) and xine. CMWeb project received CSIRO/CMIS Divisional Chief's Innovation Award (2003).
Developed a prototype video communications system for multinational client. Developed Gnome user interface for MPEG audio analysis toolkit. Contributed to research consultancy on 3D audio and acoustic localisation techniques.
Developed enhancements to Sweep required for use in production of animated feature films.
Designed and implemented secure Internet commerce and data distribution services for local clients.
Tutored 3rd year undergraduate classes in Operating Systems (COMP3231) and Computer Networks (COMP3331), and 1st year introductory programming.
Developed accounts management system, integrating billing services and automation of authentication systems.
